MAN electric semitrailer starts work for Duvenbeck

The German logistics company Duvenback has taken custody of its first MAN electric semitrailer. The MAN eTGX Ultra Low Liner is being put into operation along pathways across Europe in various areas of the Rhine-Ruhr and BeNeLux freight forwarding region as part of Volkswagen's plant logistics.

The new MAN electric semitrailer is just one of over a hundred MAN electric trucks that Duvenbeck will integrate into its operations. In May 2023, the German logistics company signed a memorandum of understanding with MAN Truck & Bus to deploy 120 MAN electric trucks by 2026. The deployment is made available through TIP Group, a manufacturer-independent commercial vehicle rental company and service provider for the transport and logistics industry. According to MAN, TIP enables companies like Duvenbeck to react “flexibly and quickly to the growing demands of sustainable logistics.”

The eTGX purchased by Duvenbeck is configured as a low liner, allowing the trailer to have an interior height of three metres. This is one of the most important requirements for car manufacturers, as it means that 50 per cent more of the standardised parts carriers can be transported than in a standard semitrailer.

“With the Ultra Low Liner eTruck, MAN has developed a solution that is perfectly tailored to the requirements of the automotive industry. No other series-produced electric semitrailer tractor can pull trailers with an interior height of three meters. This makes it the ideal choice for transports with high volume requirements,” explains Friedrich Baumann, Chief Sales & Customer Solutions Officer at MAN Truck & Bus.

With a fifth-wheel height of just 950 mm and a short wheelbase of 3.75 metres, the eTGX offers a range of around 500 kilometres in the configuration ordered by Duvenbeck. Thanks to its modular battery concept with a choice of four, five or six battery packs and power levels of 449 and 544 hp, it can be customised for various transport tasks. In addition to the standard CCS charging technology (up to 375 kW), the eTGX can also be ordered with the new MCS standard with up to one megawatt of charging power, which enables even faster intermediate charging during the driver’s break from driving.

MAN delivered its first electric semitrailer to a customer in October 2024. Since then, the haulage company Elflein has used the MAN electric trucks to transport batteries from the Leipzig battery plant of the supplier Dräxlmaier to the Porsche plant in Leipzig for the electric Macan using an eTGX Lowliner. MAN aims to have delivered the first 200 electric semitrailers to customers by the end of the year.
