Ionity has installed 12 high-power chargers at the Charlestown Shopping Centre in Dublin, Ireland. According to the company, it is thus the largest HPC location in Ireland to date.

The Charlestown Shopping Centre is located only a stone’s throw from the Junction 5 of the M50, one of Ireland’s busiest highways. The site is also home to retail brands, restaurants, and entertainment providers. The chargers are open to the public and accessible 24/7. Each charger delivers up to 350 kW, as is typical for Ionity sites. EV drivers can thus recharge their vehicles from 10 to 80 per cent in less than 20 minutes.

“Charlestown Shopping Centre is delighted to work with IONITY and to lead the way in supporting Ireland’s transition to a more sustainable future,” said Dan O’Connor, Centre Manager at Charlestown Shopping Centre. “With the installation of these 12 IONITY Fast Chargers, we are proud to offer the largest EV charging hub in Ireland. This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to promoting Sustainability, reducing our carbon footprint, and enhancing the shopping experience for our customers.”

“From its sustainability targets to the rollout of EV infrastructure across Ireland, the country is clearly taking its obligations to both people and planet seriously,” commented Andreas Atkins, Country Manager for UK&I at IONITY. “With 115,000 drivers on the M50 every day, providing an EV charging station is hugely important if we’re going make EVs the norm across Europe.”

Ireland wants 40 per cent of all new cars sold in the country to be electric by 2030. In October, local authorities in Dublin announced that they would install 200 charging points at council-owned car parks – the first Dublin-based public charging infrastructure expansion since the Irish energy company ESB introduced its pay-for-use system in early 2023.

In the summer, the government of Ireland also announced that it would fund 17 new high-power charging hubs along the country’s National Road Network. In total, it will install 131 new HPC charging points nationwide. A charging grant worth €21 million was announced in February to stimulate the private sector, targeting publicly available facilities within a 3 km driving distance of the motorway network, such as service area operators, hotels, and retail outlets.
