The Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust has almost succeeded in replacing its car pool fleet with electric vehicles. The Trust currently fields a fleet of 35 petrol cars, but has replaced 22 of them with EVs. The remainder of the combustion vehicles will be replaced with electric counterparts by the end of the year, according to the healthcare provider.

The NHS Trust has further teamed up with Hiyacar to include a “smart solution to improve utilisation and efficiency,” as Fleet News writes. Hiyacar’s app will allow users to find nearby pool cars and access them with a keyless entry system. The vehicle acquisition was done together with Knowles Fleet.

The Trust has further installed charging infrastructure on site and issued charging cards for staff to help start them out in the new system.

“Moving to an all-electric fleet is an important part of our green plan to reduce the Trust’s emissions in line with national sustainability targets,” said Tom Wright, director of sustainability at Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust. “The electric cars have zero carbon emissions when driven, and produce less roadside pollution than diesel and petrol cars, so will help to improve the health and wellbeing of our staff and communities.”

“CLCH is one of hundreds of public sector organisations we’re currently supporting on the journey to net zero. With the resource pressures many are facing, our personalised solutions are specifically designed to cut costs, reduce emissions and minimise risk in a way that requires little input from client teams, “explained Daniel O’Neill, Commercial Director at Knowles Fleet.

The NHS has been steadily electrifying its fleets across the UK, including an addition of electric ambulances by Ford at the beginning of the year. In fact, the ambulance had even been developed together by Ford and the NHS in 2021. Last year, NHS Shetland placed an order with MG Motor to purchase 24 MG4 EVs.
