AVL equips PowerCo’s battery testing laboratory
The partnership will provide the latest technologies for testing battery cells, according to AVL. The plant is to be realised by 2025. And the joint project will be another milestone in the collaboration between PowerCo and AVL, according to AVL. The two companies have already been working together on battery cell tests for some time.
Urs Gerspach, Managing Director of the Instrumentation and Test Systems division at AVL, says of the contract: “We were in tough competition with large, globally active companies. For AVL, this project is another milestone in the field of test systems for battery development. I also see it as confirmation that we are on the right track in the transformation from the combustion engine to hybridisation and electrification.”
PowerCo is currently building a battery cell factory in Salzgitter, which was originally planned with an annual capacity of 40 gigawatt hours per year, but may now turn out smaller than originally planned. At the same time, PowerCo is also building similar factories in Valencia, Spain, and Ontario, Canada.
