Labatt Breweries expands fleet with ten Volvo VNR Electric

Canada’s leading beverage company, Labatt Breweries, has spent 5.47 million CAD (3.69 million euros) on ten new Volvo VNR Electric trucks for its logistics operations in Quebec. It is Volvo Trucks’ largest single order for the VNR Electric in Canada.

The electric truck designed for the North American market boasts four battery packs that provide 300 kWh of usable energy, enabling the trucks to cover a driving range of up to 280 km. The electric drive has an output of 340 kW and a maximum torque of 5492 Nm. The EVs will be charged at the Montreal and Bois-des-Filion depots, where the brewery has installed ABB’s Terra 54 and 124 chargers.

In addition to its own investment, Labatt Breweries received 750,000 CAD (507,000 euros) from the Government of Canada through the ‘Incentives for Medium—and Heavy-Duty Zero-Emissions Vehicles (iMHZEV) program’. The Government of Quebec contributed an additional $875,000 (591,000 euros).

Sarah Genetti, Senior Director of Procurement and Sustainability at Labatt Breweries of Canada, highlighted that adding the new VNR Electric trucks to the company’s fleet represents a significant milestone for the company’s operations and mission to deliver beer to customers efficiently. “This initiative is one additional step toward our global ambition of achieving net-zero emissions across our business by 2040 and reflects our commitment to adopting innovative solutions that reduce our carbon footprint,” she said.

Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, added: “By integrating electric vehicles, companies like Labatt are taking meaningful steps to reduce their ecological footprint—efforts that deserve recognition and encouragement.”

Labatt Breweries is not Canada’s first company to order the Volvo VNR Electric. Last summer, McDonald’s Canada teamed up with Martin Brower, who uses the VRN Electric for food and beverage deliveries to select McDonald’s restaurants in the greater Montreal and Toronto areas.
