Amazon offers fake charging port for ICE vehicles

A fake charging port called 'PrankPort', a magnetically attached fake charging port for combustion vehicles, can be purchased on Amazon. The manufacturer, a brand called Export Commodity, describes the item as a joke item but also advertises it as "perfect for parking in EV spots."

In the product description, the product is advertised as a great gift “for Dads, Truck Owners, EV Haters, and those who like to joke around and be bold.” The product is available in two versions (Tesla port or J1772 port) and different colours.

According to the description, the fake charging port has been designed to look authentic. However, it is better not to actually plug in a charging cable, as the manufacturer warns that the device is not made for the weight of a cable. Commenters were also quick to point out that parking in a designated EV spot is not legal, and may doing so may end up with a trip to the tow company yard.

Stupid item, Amazon. This is designed to thwart BEV/PHEV only charging locations. It could also result in vandalism against these ICE fake charging vehicles. Amazon needs to REMOVE this item NOW!

There is enough vandalism of charging stations and people INTENTIONALLY parking to block stations why do we need this b.s. maybe I should make a black smoke machine to bolt onto the back of my ev so I can “roll coal” at diesels

Just saw on amazon that someone is selling a fake charger door for ICE cars and trucks that want to park in charger spots. Something wrong with people. So I just came up with the idea of spray painted black nails. Wedge them up against the tire to the ground at an able as to be sure when the vehicle is put into reverse they will go right into the tire. It would not ruin the tire but it would cause a flat. Put them on the passenger side of the track and being black they would be very hard to notice. I think I will start selling them on my other user ID on ebay next week.

There is no difference in these fake ports and the shaded license plate covers that thwart red light and speed cameras, except the latter are illegal in most states and will get you pulled over. I guess Amazon thinks it’s also ok use a fake handicap placard Shameful.

Although there may be laws about ICE vehicles parking in charging bays in some states, there aren't any such laws where i live. What there are plenty of are empty charging bays in otherwise full lots.
