Qwello takes over joint venture in Spain
Let’s first look at Spain. Following the takeover, the joint venture previously called “Infraestructuras de movilidad urbana sostenible AQ JV SL” will be renamed and will operate under the name Qwello España SL. According to Qwello, parting ways with its previous JV partner, Acciona Energía, means that both companies can now focus on their respective expertise and work side by side to support EV uptake in Spain.
“With the acquisition of the joint venture, Qwello is underlining its commitment and willingness to invest in the Spanish market,” says Carlos Vázquez, Managing Director of the joint venture. “The takeover of all employees, the majority of the cooperation agreements and the continuation of the collaboration with Acciona within the framework of the previous tenders reflect Qwello’s confidence in both the market and the team. The team will soon install and operate the first 40 charging points in the Spanish capital. This installation in Madrid marks the first milestone in the future development of Qwello España SL.”
“I am delighted that we have been able to reach an agreement with Acciona Energía at this crucial stage of European development,” added Qwello CEO Henrik Thiele. “Qwello aims to become a leading provider of charging infrastructure in Spain with a focus on technology, user-friendliness and sustainability – goals that we share with Acciona. This parallel approach will make it possible to expand the infrastructure in Spain even faster in the future.”
With the acquisition, Qwello continues its expansion in Europe. It recently announced the acquisition of Park&Charge, one of the largest Dutch charging infrastructure operators, and the successful completion of a first round of debt financing totalling €65 million.
In France, Qwello announced the commissioning of EV charging stations in Sèvremont, Vulcania, Le Creusot and Noirmoutier. It has thus more than 100 EV charging points in France.
Specifically, it installed 30 new charging points at Vulcania, an amusement park about volcanoes. In Sèvremont, it set up seven EV charging points at four locations. In Le Creusot, it added 12 charging points to the network. And that is just the beginning: According to the CPO, it plans to install a total of 85 charging points in these locations.
Qwello started operations in 2020 with self-developed charging stations. The company offers cities a turnkey infrastructure solution for charging stations, including hardware and software development, installation, financing, ownership, operation and maintenance. Quelle is active in Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, the UK, France, and Spain.
