FedEx adds 31 EVs to fleet in Singapore
The above-mentioned custom-built electric Mercedes panel van offers a load capacity of 923 kilos and is said to go up to 321 kilometres on one charge. It thus probably has the 60 kWh battery pack that Mercedes has been using in the eVito since 2021.
According to FedEx, the new vehicles will replace 31 diesel-powered Vito 114 CDI vehicles. The delivery company estimates the switch will “avoid around 148 metric tons of tailpipe emissions per year.”
The company also emphasises that it is already replacing all end-of-life vehicles used for last-mile logistics, i.e. for package deliveries and pick-ups, with electric vehicles. The company wants to achieve carbon-neutral operations by 2040.
“FedEx is committed to connecting people and opportunities in smarter ways,” stated Kawal Preet, president of FedEx Asia Pacific. “With the introduction of these electric vehicles, we are taking meaningful steps to lower greenhouse gas emissions while improving our efficiency, directly supporting Singapore’s bold sustainability initiatives.”
Moreover, FedEX’s South Pacific Regional Hub in Singapore will soon get solar panels, which will be able to cover more than half of the facility’s total electricity demands. That, too, will help with the transition to electric mobility, the CEP provider notes.
