US manufacturer Lectron says it now produces up to 12,000 NACS to CCS adapters per week. The company supplies Ford with NACS adapters, for example.

As Tesla is opening up its Supercharger network to other carmakers in the US, demand for adapters there has surged. As a result, Lectron has increased production of its Tesla Supercharger adapter, branded as the Vortex Plug. It allows non-Tesla cars to plug in at the Supercharger and is rated for 1,000 volts to 500 amps.

“Our expanded production guarantees that every EV driver with a compatible vehicle can access the largest fast-charging network in the US from day one,” said Christopher Maiwald, Lectron CEO.

The adapter is available on the Lectron website for 199,99 dollars. It is also available on the Ford website (albeit currently out of stock). Ford provides the adapter for free to all its EV drivers who ordered one before the end of August. All others will have to pay 200 dollars to receive it.

Lectron is the official manufacturer of the ‘Ford Fast Charging Adapter.’ The companies developed the adapter after customers reported issues with previously issued units, which had been manufactured by Tesla. Ford asked customers to stop using them due to “potential issues.”

However, the adapter cannot be used with every NACS chargers, just at the Supercharger. The adapter will not work with Destination Chargers or home chargers equipped with the NACS format.
