Electric buses from Proterra banished to the garage in Texas

The Texan bus operator Capital Metro will store 46 brand-new electric buses from Proterra for at least a year. The reason for this is Proterra's insolvency and the problems that the successor company, Phoenix Motor, is now having in fulfilling guarantees and solving technical problems.

Phoenix bought the bus division of the insolvent US company Proterra at the end of last year. However, the problems for Proterra’s customers apparently continue. As American portals report, the public transport operator CapMetro, based in Austin, Texas, has now decided to store 46 newly arrived ZX5 e-buses from Proterra until Phoenix is able to ‘fulfil warranties and resolve technical issues’, according to reports.

CapMetro is also experiencing problems of its own making, with delays in the installation of charging stations along the route. However, the e-buses from a second provider – New Flyer – will be deployed shortly: ‘40 of the 58 CapMetro buses from New Flyer will be carrying passengers from now on, but only for eight hours a day until more chargers are installed at the end of the bus routes,’ reports the Texan portal Kult News. CapMetro actually wanted to get a total of 104 battery-electric buses on the road in this expansion phase.

CapMetro is pretty badly mismanaged and was under FBI investigation in the 80s/90s.
