ChargeEuropa and Meralco’s Movem to launch charging network in the Philippines
Under the newly formed partnership, ChargeEuropa will introduce its DOOH/EV charging model to the Philippines, marking the company’s first entry into a market in Asia. This also marks one of the first major charging network installations in the country, which saw ABB deliver charging infrastructure as early as 2018, but has not seen major developments in the field since.
ChargeEuropa’s approach to EV charging combines ‘Digital Out-of-Home’ (DOOH) advertising with charging stations. By leveraging advertising revenue to support the rollout and operation of EV chargers, it is advertised as a financially sustainable pathway for EV adoption in markets where traditional EV charging infrastructure may not yet be feasible. Movem will then help ChargeEuropa deploy the advertising-supported EV chargers across strategic locations in the Philippines.
“Our partnership with Movem is a key milestone as we expand ChargeEuropa’s mission to support early-stage EV markets,” said Matt Tymowski, CEO of ChargeEuropa. “The Philippines, with its rapidly growing urban centers and increasing commitment to sustainable energy, presents an ideal market to showcase how our technology can accelerate EV adoption while simultaneously benefiting advertisers.”
“ChargeEuropa’s model aligns perfectly with our goals to make sustainable transportation accessible and convenient for Filipinos,” added Raymond Ravelo, President and CEO of Movem. “With this partnership, we are taking a significant step towards a cleaner, greener future by offering innovative EV solutions that are both effective and sustainable.”
In 2022, ChargeEuropa announced plans to build a network of over 1,000 charging stations globally, over a period of two years. One year prior, Meralco had started electrifying its vehicle fleet with an order to BYD for 18 electric transporters.
