Skoda to enter India’s EV market with facelifted Enyaq in 2025

Skoda plans to penetrate the EV space in India with the Enyaq in 2025. However, the company will launch the Enyaq directly in the upcoming, facelifted version, not the existing one it currently offers in Europe.

Skoda planned to launch the Enyaq in India this year. However, last May, it decided to defer it until the facelift in 2025, Petr Janeba, the company’s local Brand Director, said in an interview with The Week. Additionally, Janeba revealed the Czech automaker plans to unveil the facelifted Enyaq in March.

Janeba suggested that the facelifted Enyaq will have such a high level of upgrades that customers would find the existing model too old in comparison. “The facelift is so big that it would probably kill the (existing) car,” he said. He confirmed the 2025 Enyaq will feature the new ‘Modern Solid’ design language, which Skoda introduced in the Epiq concept and first implemented in the Elroq.

Skoda is considering launching its entire current EV portfolio in India. “We are thinking whether we bring Elroq or Enyaq or Enyaq Coupe or all three cars,” Janeba said. However, the company does not plan to heavily localise any of these EVs, if at all. At best, it may import knocked-down kits from Europe and assemble them in India.

Skoda plans to launch its first locally manufactured, heavily localised EV in India in 2027. The company will manufacture it at the Chakan plant near Pune, around 30 km north of Pune in the western state of Maharashtra. It has not disclosed the segment, platform, or any other details of this model.

Skoda and its sister brand Volkswagen will utilise a ‘CMP21’ platform for the EVs they plan to manufacture in India. CMP21 is one of the several possible versions of the China Main Platform (CMP) and an adaptation of the existing MEB31 platform. Officially, the German conglomerate has not confirmed a plan to use CMP in any market other than China.
