Volvo to start deliveries of the EX30 in the US in 2024
Catering to popular demand, Volvo Car USA will focus on “the most requested model: the 422 hp EX30 Twin Motor Performance, available in Plus or Ultra equipment levels with a starting MSRP of $44,900.” Customers with an existing preorder reservation can thus now configure their EX30 online.
The electric SUV is also available as a single engine variant. However, that version will not hit the road in the US until “later in 2025.”
Interestingly enough, the models to be delivered soon will come from China. To an enquiry from elective, Volvo responded: “This limited run of model year 2025 EX30s for the US will be built in Zhangjiakou, China, currently the only plant producing the EX30 globally. Once production of EX30 begins in Ghent, Belgium, it is planned that models destined for the US market will be built there.”
Volvo announced earlier this year that it would move production of EX30 models destined for the US from China to Belgium to avoid duties on China-made EVs in the States. That is why the manufacturer pushed the start of deliveries of all EX30 models to 2025 and even stopped accepting reservations for the BEV.
What is certain are the technical details: The extended-range Twin Motor Performance variant can charge with up to 153 kW, allowing the battery to be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in around 25 minutes. Moreover, the variant now headed to the US has an EPA-rated range of up to 253 miles (407 kilometres).
“Volvo has been and always will be about people, which is why we worked hard to make the Volvo EX30 available sooner than anticipated for our customers,” said Mike Cottone, President of Volvo Car USA and Canada. “The EX30 has already proved exceptionally popular in other markets, and we’re excited to bring it to the US this year.”
