Be.EV installs charging hub in Sheffield
The site’s ultra-rapid Kempower chargers are capable of charging up to 150kW and are located in the busy Parkway Central Retail Park, on a key trunk road between Sheffield city centre and the M1, as mentioned above. The site was chosen due to an estimated 66,000 vehicles passing the spot every day, and being less than three miles to the city centre.
This is not the end state of the charging hub, however, as the initiators point out, the infrastructure is ready to accommodate 20 charging bays in total. While no expansion plans have been stated yet, the company wrote: “This phased approach means the hub takes up the right amount of space for now, and can be easily upgraded for the future as EV adoption grows and the chargers become busier.”
“The air pollution deaths statistics in Sheffield are shocking and need to be drastically reduced. The Clean Air Zone introduced last year is a great start, but encouraging people to switch to EVs by giving them access to convenient public charging is the key way to finish the job,” said Asif Ghafoor, CEO of Be.EV, adding: “Charging infrastructure will go a long way to driving this. We need to make it as easy as possible for drivers to make the shift to driving EVs, and this ultra-rapid charging hub at Parkway is a step in the right direction.”
Be.EV has been on an expansion course with nearly a monthly announcement this year, setting up fast charging infrastructure at retail centres in the UK, as well as signing the Paua charging network and the Plugsurfing network since the summer. In June, it was also announced that the company had secured £55 million in funds to expand charging infrastructure.
