Six Fuso eCanters for DHL routes in Malmö

Swedish logistics company Falkenklev has added six eCanters from the Daimler Truck brand Fuso to its fleet. The light commercial vehicles are used exclusively by DHL for distribution transport in Malmö and the surrounding area.

Falkenklev purchased its first electric heavy-duty distribution trucks in 2022, namely an eActros 300 from Mercedes-Benz and five electric trucks from Scania. The company also has 20 eSprinters. The company also installed 22 charging points.
Originally only intended for the company’s own electric fleet, CEO Victor Falkenklev turned it into an additional business”So we quickly turned it into a charging park that is open to the public during the day, and it is used by many people here in the industrial area,” he says.

Falkenklev has now added six Fuso eCanters to its electric fleet – making it the manufacturer’s first customer in Sweden, where it is keen to gain a foothold. The bright yellow DHL-branded light trucks will be used exclusively for DHL transport operations on the southern coast of Sweden in the Skåne region and primarily in the Malmö urban area.

The vehicles are 8.55-tonne trucks with a wheelbase of 4.75 metres and a maximum body length of 7.20 metres for up to 15 pallet spaces. “They fill the gap between vans and heavy-duty delivery trucks, and are exactly what we were looking for to electrify our daily deliveries for DHL in the center of Malmö,” explains Falkenklev.

The routes covered by the Fuso eCanter for DHL are rather short, usually only around 20 kilometres. There are 20 to 30 stops to deliver and collect goods. The vehicles are equipped with the size M battery pack, which consists of two batteries and should offer a range of up to 140 kilometres – meaning that several of these short rounds are possible without recharging.

Falkenklev’s truck fleet is set to be 100 per cent electric at some point. After all, Victor Falkenklev has “been thinking about how to make our business sustainable for a while now. I want a greener future for my two young children and for myself. But that will only happen if everyone in their own area becomes active and makes a difference.” His company still has a lot of potential to become even more sustainable. “We have around 140 trucks on routes that we could easily manage electrically,” explains Falkenklev.
