Polestar and Volvo EVs unlock access to Tesla’s charging apparatus
The plan to adopt Tesla’s NACS to Volvo has now become a reality. It has officially been confirmed that Volvo electric cars, including the new EX90 flagship SUV, have unlocked access to more than 17,800 Tesla Supercharger stations in the U.S. and Canada.
Volvo says that Tesla’s NACS adapters are already on sale and can be ordered at authorized Volvo Cars retailers in the United States and Canada for US$230/CA$310 MSRP. In addition, retailers will get hold of the adapters by November 18, 2024. While users of model year 2025 fully electric Volvo vehicles such as EX40 will have access to the adapters, Volvo says the EX30 model does not have access to the adapters now and availability of the adapters for the brand will be announced later.
Volvo drivers will be able to access the Supercharger network via the Volvo Cars app or built-in Google Maps by November 18. They will have access to real-time information on the availability of chargers, and pay for charging sessions through one single interface.
“As part of our journey to electrification, we want to make life with an electric car, including our new flagship EX90, as seamless as possible,” said Mike Cottone, President of Volvo Car USA and Canada. “Today we are taking a major step to providing access to easy and convenient charging infrastructure for Volvo drivers in the United States and Canada, furthering our commitment to EV adoption.”
Apart from Volvo, Polestar also unlocked access to the Tesla Superchargers. According to reports, the Polestar 2 sedan, the new Polestar 3 crossover and the upcoming Polestar 4 electric vehicles will enjoy access to Tesla’s vast and industry-standard charging apparatus at a price of $230 in the USA.
Addressing where Polestar owners can gain access to the Tesla’s Superchargers, the company in a press release explains that “Owners of existing Polestar products can order a NACS adapter through their local Polestar Service Point today with deliveries planned for mid-November.”
