Opel reveals new design for the Mokka Electric and adjusts German prices

Opel has given its small SUV Mokka a facelift and significantly reduced the price of the electric version in Germany. However, this is also partly due to the changed model range: the 100 kW drive will no longer be sold with immediate effect.

The all-electric Mokka Electric is now only available with the 115 kW electric motor and 54 kWh battery, and costs start at €36,740 in Germany. For the UK market, Vauxhall has not specified new prices yet. Previously, the base price in Germany had stood at 40,800 euros in combination with the now discontinued 100 kW motor and 50 kWh battery. The 115 kW Mokka Electric previously cost from 44,720 euros. In other words: with the 115 kW drive, the Mokka Electric has become 7,980 euros cheaper. Compared to the previous base model with 100 kW, the difference is 4,060 euros. In April, Vauxhall also launched a 29,495-pound version called the ‘Griffin’ in the UK.

The price reductions at the Stellantis subsidiary thus continue. Just one day earlier, the Rüsselsheim-based Stellantis brand had revised the Corsa Electric range in its home market. The price of the small car, which is technically closely related to the Mokka, has fallen by over €4,600, with the Corsa Electric now starting at €29,990. Unlike the Mokka, however, the Corsa Electric is still available with a 100-kW drive, with the 115-kW drive starting at 31,490 euros.

With the same drive system, the difference between the Corsa Electric and the Mokka Electric is therefore now 5,250 euros. With the new Mokka price list, the equipment logic has also been adjusted. Previously, the 100-kW drive was available in the ‘Elegance’ and ‘GS’ variants, while the 115-kW drive was only available as ‘Ultimate’. With the latest model years, Stellantis – also at Peugeot – is introducing only two equipment lines per model, which can be combined with all drive versions (if available). In the case of Opel, these are the ‘Edition’ and ‘GS’ equipment lines, and the Mokka Electric now only has two variants with just one electric drive. There are no technical changes, so the maximum charging power remains at 100 kW.

Unlike the Corsa, the Mokka also has a small facelift for the new model year – Vauxhall speaks of “modern, compact and unmistakable style” and “making the unconventional compact SUV even more desirable, both inside and out.” Although it retains the Vauxhall brand face ‘Vizor’, the new Vauxhall flash is now integrated into it. As in the Frontera, the LED lights at the front and rear now consist of three ‘light blocks’ instead of one line. Each variant has a black design line running from the bonnet to the rear above the side windows. In addition to further black panelling at the front and rear, the ‘GS’ also has a black trim strip in the lower section of the doors. The absence of chrome elements is also intended to conserve resources.

Inside, there is a new steering wheel with a flattened bottom, new seat covers (all fabrics contain recycled content), a modified centre console and the displays have also been adapted. The Vauxhall bestseller now offers a ten-inch digital driver information display and an equally large colour touchscreen as standard – running a new version of the infotainment software.

“Our new Vauxhall Mokka is bold, pure, and unmistakable. A car full of character that stands out in the crowd,” says James Taylor, Managing Director, Vauxhall. “Its current popularity alongside Corsa Electric means Vauxhall is the leading brand for electric sales in the combined B-segment. We are committed to making electric mobility accessible to everyone, with a fully electric version of each model in our line-up set to be available by the end of the year.”
