Transdev Nederland orders 96 electric buses from Solaris

Solaris will deliver a total of 96 battery-electric buses to the Dutch public transport operator Transdev Nederland Holding. The buses will be handed over in the last quarter of 2025.

According to Solaris, the buses will go into service in the city of Utrecht. The manufacturer does not mention which type of bus Transdev ordered, only that the order was placed “earlier this year” and that “the customer opted for Solaris High Energy battery solution.” The manufacturer is also very clear that these will be battery-electric buses and not fuel cell vehicles.

Transdev subsidiary Connexxion operates 20 Urbino 12 hydrogen buses in the south of the country, and that Solaris’ Trollino 18 trolleybuses “in the distinctive MetroStyle design” have been in service in the city of Arnhem for several months. The order for the latter was placed in 2022.

The order for the 96 battery-electric buses for Utrecht is part of the operator’s plan to replace its entire fleet with zero-emission vehicles, Solaris states. Transdev Nederland currently operates 50 bus lines and transports 30 million passengers per year.
