Ampere partners with E2-CAD

Ampere and E2-CAD will work together in the field of embedded electronics. As part of the deal, Ampere will acquire 40 per cent of E2-CAD’s capital.

The rather short press release does not go into much detail about the planned partnership. It only says that it will focus in particular on power electronics, as “power electronics represent a significant part of the cost of an electric powertrain.”

Ampere is the electric car subsidiary of French manufacturer Renault. The collaboration will allow it to “master the embedded electronics value chain by working in close partnership with a company expert in this field,” the company says.

“We have been working with E2-CAD on structuring topics for years, since the launch of Zoe in 2013. The skills of E2-CAD teams in key areas of electric vehicles, especially in the development of electronic boards and low-level software, its agility on our projects have made it one of our preferred partners,” says  Philippe Brunet, SVP Powertrain and EV Engineering, Ampere. This agreement is part of Ampere’s strategy to master the know-how around power electronics, especially in the context of our next major E7A powertrain project. The history between our two companies ensures immediate effectiveness on our major projects.”
