Tesla Model Y available as a seven-seater in Europe
Deliveries of the Model Y Maximum Range with all-wheel drive and seven-seat configuration to European customers are set to begin this quarter, as Tesla announced in a press release. The new interior option can also already be found in the configurator on the Tesla website. With the aforementioned drive, the seven-seater interior costs 2,500 euros more than the standard five-seater. The seven-seater is also available with a white interior (for an extra €1,200).
Two folding and forward-facing seats are installed in the seven-seater in the third row. “Access to the third row of seats is very convenient thanks to the access buttons on the backrests of the second row of seats,” Tesla says. “Simply press the button, and the second row of seats slides forward and folds down to make it easy to get in and out.” At this point, it is not yet possible to say how comfortable the entrance actually is. There are two USB-C ports for charging mobile devices for passengers in the third row.
The two additional seats naturally also impact the luggage compartment volume. If all seven seats are used, Tesla states that there will still be 363 litres of storage space in the boot, which should be enough for two small suitcases. Together with the unchanged 117-litre frunk under the front bonnet, this results in 480 litres of usable storage space as a seven-seater. If the two third-row seats are folded down, 753 litres should be available – Tesla states 854 litres for the five-seater. The maximum storage space of the seven-seater is 2,040 litres, while the five-seater can carry up to 2,158 litres when the rear seat bench is folded down and loaded to roof height. The maximum towing capacity of 1,600 kilograms remains unchanged.
“The Model Y was designed from the outset to be the perfect family SUV, offering great versatility. Hundreds of thousands of households worldwide have chosen the Model Y as their primary vehicle for their daily commute and long-distance journeys,” says the carmaker. “With the introduction of the 7-seater option in Germany, we are taking versatility to a new level. The 7-seater Model Y is ideal for families with children, as it offers the space needed to carry all family members, friends and the necessary equipment.”
The new version will be built at Giga Berlin in Brandenburg. As mentioned, prices start at 57,490 euros, while the five-seater with all-wheel drive is available from 54,990 euros. It is not known whether the seven-seater option will also be offered with other drive variants at a later date. These prices are for Germany.
In the UK, adding a third row of seats will cost customers an extra 2,500 pounds. That means that the ‘Model Y Long Range Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive’ is available for 51,000 pounds with a five-seat interior and 53,500 pounds with seven seats.
