The Polish National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management has officially received approval for a new subsidy programme from the European Investment Bank, which will now provide grants for multiple e-mobility subsidy programmes.

One of the programmes will set aside 2 billion zlotys in subsidies for the purchase of new zero-emission trucks, which the initiators hope will “make a real difference to the pace of development in the transport sector, contributing to increased competition for electric heavy-duty vehicles.”

This fund will cover up to 30 per cent of eligible costs for large companies while covering up to 50 per cent for medium companies and 60 per cent for small companies. One more limitation is set within the programme, allowing for a total amount of 400,000 zlotys for N2 category vehicles or 750,000 zlotys for N3 category vehicles. If a company chooses to lease a truck instead of purchasing it, the subsidy cannot be higher than the initial leasing fee.

The rest of the funds will come in the form of two other subsidy programmes, which have previously been approved by the EIB, but are expected to be launched “soon.” They will focus on the construction and expansion of electricity grids for publicly accessible high-power charging stations and the development of public charging stations for heavy transport. The total budget of these two initiatives is PLN 4 billion and their beneficiaries will include charging station operators. The charging station subsidy programme will run until 2029 when it will be reassessed according to its effectiveness and implementation and material efficiency.

“Currently, there are only around 100 electric heavy-duty vehicles (eHDVs) on Polish roads. The implementation of the eagerly awaited support programmes will be an important step towards maintaining the status quo in the sector. These initiatives, thanks to their comprehensive nature, give hope for rapid market development and increased interest in electrification among transport companies in Poland,” said Piotr Ziółkowski, PSNM Committee Coordinator for Logistics and Transport. PSNM is an industry organization shaping the e-mobility and hydrogen technology market in Poland and in the CEE region, according to the organizations own statements.
