Daimler Truck delivers 20 eCascadia in California
Reyes Beverage Group (RBG) wants to switch its entire fleet to zero-emission by 2039. The first units of the all-electric Class 8 tractor will be based at its warehouse in Huntington Beach in Orange County. The nine additional units mentioned above will be deployed at the San Bernardino warehouse.
The electric trucks will be charged at their respective warehouses. The Freightliner eCascadia is available with three battery options, specifically with 194 kWh, 291 kWh, and 438 kWh. As the trucks for RBG have “a typical driving range of 220 miles” (354 kilometres), according to the press release, the company seemingly opted for the largest battery pack. Recharging the vehicle to 80 per cent takes 90 minutes.
“We are excited to be among the first in our industry to adopt these electric vehicles,” said Tom Reyes, President of RBG West. “This is a significant step toward our sustainability goals and ensuring compliance with state regulation as we transition our fleet to EV.”
Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) launched the eCascadia in North America in 2022. It has a maximum permissible weight of 82,000 lbs or 37.2 tonnes and a maximum range of 370 kilometres. The electric truck is not intended as a long-haul truck, but for last-mile logistics, local and regional distribution traffic and the transfer of freight between two warehouses.
“The Freightliner eCascadia is built with maximum productivity in mind for fleets switching to efficient, zero-emission vehicles,” said David Carson, senior vice president, sales and marketing for DTNA. “As the leading manufacturer of medium- and heavy-duty trucks in the U.S., we are fully committed to reducing emissions with our vehicles and working with partners like RBG who share our vision to continue moving the commercial transportation industry toward a more sustainable future.”
