LG Electronics opens order books for 175 kW charging station

LG Electronics is now offering business customers in the USA a newly developed fast charging station. The device delivers up to 175 kW and complements the AC charging solution already manufactured by LG Electronics in Texas.

The 175 kW charger is set to roll off the production line at the Fort Worth plant this autumn. LG Electronics’ B2B division, LG Business Solutions USA, is now accepting orders. The device with the bulky name of ‘LG EVC175SK-PN’ supports the CCS and NACS charging standards, according to the manufacturer. The charger has liquid-cooled charging cables, integrated dynamic load management and a 24-inch touchscreen, as well as an unspecified “Power Bank” connected ex-works – this may indicate a battery-supported fast-charging system, although no more has been revealed on that yet.

LG Electronics only opened its production facility for charging infrastructure in Texas at the beginning of the year. The plant in Fort Worth is expected to have an annual capacity of more than 10,000 units. Until now, only the manufacturer’s 11 kW chargers have rolled off the production line here. When the plant was opened, the South Korean company announced that the 175 kW charger in question would soon follow, as well as a 350 kW charger soon after.

LG Electronics only entered the charging infrastructure market last year and presented its first products in May 2023 – AC and DC chargers with slightly different charging capacities at the time. For the DC products, there was initially talk of 100 and 200 kW power, but LG has since switched to the 175 and 350 kW most commonly demanded on the market. As the company announced last November, the AC wallbox is available with a Type 1 plug and can be mounted either directly on the wall or on a column. The DC chargers can be ordered with CCS1 or NACS connections.

LG’s first production site for charging infrastructure outside of South Korea is the factory in Texas. The South Korean company chose Fort Worth because of already existing facilities that could be used on the site and because Texas has ‘excellent logistics and transport networks’ that have attracted other companies from the automotive industry that already have branches there.

“By establishing our EV charger production factory in Texas, we will be able to actively respond to the rapidly growing demand for EV infrastructure in the US,” said Jang Ik-hwan, president of the LG Business Solutions Company, at the opening ceremony in January. “LG is dedicated to delivering uncompromising quality and will offer customers reliable EV charging solutions that combine efficient charger units with advanced control systems.”
