Rosenbauer opens order books for Panther 6×6 electric

Emergency response organisations can now order the new aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) vehicle, the Panther 6x6 electric. The Austrian manufacturer, Rosenbauer, says the Panther is capable of faster acceleration and top speed than a corresponding fossil-fuelled vehicle.

According to Rosenbauer, the emergency vehicle was designed and developed with the involvement of airport operators and fire services from the very beginning with the aim of handling daily operations entirely on electric power.

The vehicle was designed to meet the required acceleration (0 to 80 km/h in under 25 seconds) and top speed (120 km/h) purely on electric drive. The emergency vehicle specialist has also ensured the water pump can be operated electrically at full capacity (9,000 l/min).

Charging is possible with both direct and alternating current, while the maximum charging capacity is 300 kW. What the Austrian company calls an ‘Energy Backup System’ has been installed in the vehicle “to ensure continuous use and the vehicle’s unrestricted operational capability,” say the manufacturers.

“Through the development of our RT/ RTX, we have acquired a great deal of expertise in the field of e-mobility, which we have been able to use in the development of the Panther 6×6 electric over the last two years,” says Sebastian Wolf, CEO of Rosenbauer International.

Just last month, in September 2024, electrive reported that Rosenbauer delivered emergency vehicles to fire departments in Paris and Berlin for regular operations.

The Panther 6×6 electric was first presented as a concept vehicle at the Interschutz industry trade show in 2022. The company says the first pre-series vehicles are on schedule to be delivered by the end of 2025.
