It is not certain how many units were included in the first batch. What is clear is that the BillionE Group, parent company of Billion Electric Mobility, has ordered a total of 180 electric trucks from Ashok Leyland.

“BOSS Electric is India’s first and only electric truck in the ICV range, and AVTR 55T Electric Tractor is the first 4×2 Tractor to be commercially offered by an Indian CV manufacturer,” Shenu Agarwal, MD and CEO of Ashok Leyland emphasised at the flag-off ceremony. “Ashok Leyland remains committed in pushing the boundaries of innovation to lead the shift to green mobility, offering cutting-edge technologies and outstanding customer experience.”

According to Ashok Leyland, its trucks are compatible “with commonly used trailers and superstructures,” as the battery packs are positioned at the frame level. The trucks are also equipped with CC2 and come with simultaneous dual-gun charging for faster recharging.

The AVTR 55T Electric Tractor has an output of 220 kW and a battery capacity of 301 kWh. That allows for a range of up to 180 km. As the name indicates, the truck’s gross combination weight (GCW) is 55 tonnes.

The Boss 14T EV has an output of up to 120 kW, a battery with an energy capacity of 201 kWh, and a range of up to 230 kilometres. The larger Boss 19T EV has an output of 150 kW, a 201-kWh battery pack, and a range of up to 194 kilometres.

“As we build our energy transition platform BillionE, an integrated mid-mile Electric Truck Platform as a collaboration between our group companies Billion E-Mobility and ChargeZone, we embark on a journey together towards a cleaner, more efficient, and sustainable tomorrow, we thank Ashok Leyland for delivering the technologically advanced Electric vehicles – AVTR 55T Tractor and BOSS, enabling us to take forward our commitment to driving a sustainable and eco-friendly transportation ecosystem,” said Kartikey Hariyani, Founder and CEO of Billion E-Mobility and Indian charge point operator ChargeZone.
