Toyota to build an electric vehicle factory in India

Toyota is reportedly planning to build a new factory for electric and hybrid vehicles in India. The automaker is said to have already acquired land in the state of Maharashtra through its local joint venture, Toyota Kirloskar Motor.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is the Indian joint venture of Toyota and the Kirloskar Group, focused on the production and sale of Toyota vehicles in India. According to media reports, this subsidiary has purchased land in Maharashtra for the factory. It is expected to commence operations in January 2026 and will have the capacity to produce 400,000 electric and hybrid vehicles per year.

The project is expected to create 8,000 direct and 18,000 indirect jobs, according to a senior official from the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). The newly acquired land is reported to cover an area of 335 hectares. The estimated investment volume for the project’s implementation is approximately €2.17 billion.
