Peugeot now sells the E-3008 and E-5008 with a larger battery

Peugeot is now accepting orders for the long-range variants of its two electric SUVs, the E-3008 and E-5008. It also announced that it will "soon" offer the EVs with a third electric powertrain. (UPDATE BELOW)

That Peugeot will offer the E-3008 and E-5008 with a 97-kWh battery has been known since the EVs’ launch. However, only the model variants with the smaller 73-kWh battery have been available so far. In France, prices for the E-3008 230 Long Range start at 46,990 euros for the Allure trim. The E-5008 230 Long Range in that same trim is priced from 51,490 euros. Prices for other European countries will follow in the coming weeks.

The longer range variants of the E-3008 and E-5008, the former will be on display at the Paris Auto Show from 14 to 20 October, have a range of 700 and 668 kilometres, respectively. Peugeot specifies the maximum DC charging power of the long-range battery at 160 kW (the STLA Medium, on which the cars are based, is a pure 400-volt platform). Even though other models in this size class offer higher peak charging capacities, the Peugeot seems to be able to maintain the 160 kW for a relatively long time, as the charging time from 20 to 80 per cent is 27 minutes. However, a direct comparison with the competition is not possible, as Stellantis specifies the charging time from 20 to 80 per cent – and not the usual 10 to 80 per cent.

The two models will go on sale with the additional designation ‘230.’ The large battery is combined with a 170 kW electric motor, and the power output corresponds to 230 hp, which gives the car its name. The versions with the 73 kWh battery will be powered by a 157 kW motor (213 PS) and are sold with the code number’ 210.’ Moreover, the French carmaker specifies that the “E-3008 and E-5008 LONG RANGE benefit from the new battery pre-conditioning (pre-heating system), which allows them to optimize the initial charging times during long trips and low temperature.”

The new battery option is 15 millimetres thicker than the 73 kWh battery. According to the manufacturer, the STLA Medium is designed as a ‘BEV-by-design’ platform, so the space available in the interior and boot is not affected. The 4.54-metre-long e-3008, with its wheelbase of 2.73 metres, is a relatively compact car, considering its battery has an energy content of almost 100 kWh.

The two electric SUVs are based on the new Stellantis STLA Medium platform and use battery cells from the ACC joint venture (along with TotalEnergies and Mercedes-Benz). That means the battery cells come from France, specifically from Douvrin, which is currently home to ACC’s only operational factory. The timetable for the plants in Kaiserslautern and Termoli in Italy is uncertain.

In addition to a bigger battery, Peugeot says it will “soon” also offer both electric SUVs with a third electric powertrain, namely the 320 Dual Motor AWD, for “particularly high performance.” The electric drivetrain will thus offer 320 hp or 235 kW. According to the (German) configurator, the E-5008 with all-wheel-drive will have the smaller 73-kWh battery and offer a WLTP range of 500 kilometres. DC charging from 20 to 80 per cent will take 30 minutes. Information about the E-3008 all-wheel-drive model variant is not yet available.

Update 18 October 2024

Peugeot has revealed pricing and availability for the E-3008 and E-5008 Long Range models with the 98-kWh battery in the UK. According to the carmaker, the E-3008 Long Range will start at £48,650, and the E-5008 Long Range at £51,350. The order books will open on 5 November, with the first deliveries scheduled for the first quarter of next year.
