Ionna starts building first HPC park in North Carolina
Ionna’s first ‘Rechargery’ is being built in Apex, North Carolina, on the site of a former petrol station. It will have ten covered charging stations with up to 400 kW charging via CCS or NACS. According to Ionna shareholder BMW, the lounge will offer “secure access to bathrooms, coffee service, food/beverage, and WIFI to relax or work while your vehicle charges. ” Outdoor facilities and “pet-friendly amenities” will also be just a few steps away.
BMW has not yet revealed when exactly the first ‘Rechargery’ in Apex will open. When Ionna was officially founded in February 2024 (although the project was announced in the summer of 2023), it was stated that the first location would open before the end of the year.
According to BMW, the first Ionna location is “in the historic district of a quintessential American town built around a railroad steam engine refill pond, which the workers called Apex.” Ionna will restore the facility and the property. Another advantage of the site is that it is only a few kilometres from Ionna’s headquarters in Durham, North Carolina.
Ionna also announces the appointment of Jackie Slope as Chief Technology Officer. “Jackie will oversee the strategic deployment of hardware, software and experiential technologies, building out processes to enable a frictionless customer experience,” BMW announced. The manager joins Ionna from the sports and entertainment industry.
“Having spent my career raising the bar around the customer experience, I am excited to find ways to innovate and elevate the charging experience by serving the customer above all else in this new and exciting industry,” says Slope herself.
