Nio sub-brand Onvo hands over first electric SUVs to customers
According to Chinese media, only the version of the electric SUV with the smaller 60 kWh battery is available for now. A long-range version of the Onvo L60 with an 85-kWh battery is also expected to be available in December. The model was presented for the first time in May, and the order book opened a few weeks ago. As is usual with China’s up-and-coming EV manufacturers, the triad of presentation, order and delivery debut is always very close together. In the case of Onvo, it took less than six months.
The Nio sub-brand Onvo is designed to appeal to families. The prices are slightly lower than those of the core brand. If purchased with the battery, the L60 starts at 206,900 yuan (around 26,000 euros) in China. By comparison, the Tesla Model Y is available from 249,900 yuan (around 32,000 euros). Alternatively, the Onvo L60 can also be purchased without a battery for prices starting at 149,900 yuan (around 19,000 euros). Depending on the size of the battery, it can then be rented from 599 yuan (around 75 euros) per month.
A brief look at the most important technical data: The L60’s single-engine variant has a peak engine output of 240 kW, a maximum torque of 305 Nm, and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 5.9 seconds. The variant with twin-engine all-wheel drive has a combined peak output of 340 kW and a peak torque of 440 Nm. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 4.6 seconds.
In both cases, the Onvo L60 has a 900-volt architecture. According to the Chinese test cycle, the standard battery pack has a capacity of 60 kWh and enables a range of 555 kilometres. The battery pack for long-distance travel has a capacity of 85 kWh and is expected to provide a range of up to 730 kilometres.
According to CN EV Post, Nio hopes to deliver the first 20,000 units of the car this year. In the future, production of 20,000 vehicles per month is planned. Nio currently has two vehicle assembly plants in Hefei in Anhui province, which theoretically allow the production of 10,000 Nio models and 20,000 Onvo models per month. The portal bases this information on statements by Nio boss William Li.
