USA: Ford offers free home charger with new EVs
The offer applies to all customers who buy or lease a Ford Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning pickup truck, or E-Transit Cargo van after 1 October and is valid through the end of the year.
“While we’ve been focused on making public charging easier — including giving Ford owners access to Tesla’s Superchargers with an adapter as part of BlueOval Charge Network — we have learned just how important home charging is to overall electric vehicle adoption in the US,” Ford CEO Jom Farley said on LinkedIn. According to a survey the automaker conducted in the US on mid-September, nearly 90 per cent of customers are more likely to buy an EV if they can charge at home.
“Shoppers worry about range, charging and battery health,” said Martin Delonis, senior manager of strategy for model e, when speaking to the Detroit Free Press. “These aren’t concerns of owners. This tells us that there is tremendous perception gap to bridge, and shoppers need help crossing it.”
How much Ford is willing to spend on the promotional offer is unclear. Marin Gjaja, chief operating officer of Ford’s electric division, told Reuters the company expects to “contain it in our existing financials.” Ford desperately needs to increase sales of its electric vehicles. The company continues to expect a $5-5.5 billion loss for Ford Model e in 2024.
