FE Electric delivers beer in London

Asahi UK aims to make all deliveries with zero tailpipe emissions and has begun with a Volvo FE Electric 4x2 rigid for its London operations. The silent and emission-free vehicle will deliver all kinds of beer from a 174-year-old brewery.

The 18-tonne Volvo electric truck will operate from Fuller’s long-standing Griffin Brewery in Chiswick, West London that was first opened in 1845. The maiden journey will bring Fuller’s London Pride cask beer to the Churchill Arms pub in Kensington.

The popular electric truck from Volvo will then deliver some of the brewing giant’s most popular brands, including Fuller’s ales, Meantime craft beer, Cornish Orchards cider, Asahi Super Dry, and Peroni Nastro Azzurro to London pubs.

Sam Goodenough, Sustainability Manager at Asahi UK, says: “Our FE Electric will be one of the first of its kind to enter London, demonstrating the potential of electric drays to create quieter streets, support the city’s clean air initiatives, and build a more sustainable future for the communities we serve.”

While this may be true, London is seeing an ever-increasing number of electric vehicles, spurred on by the city’s low-emissions zones, which cost those emitting pollution and have covered the whole of London since 2023. Asahi’s goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2040 is also not particularly ambitious, but certainly more future-proof than those with no deadline at all. Certainly, the neighbours will appreciate the silent deliveries of this new electric truck.
