Revel opens new EV charging hub in New York City

Revel has opened its public fast-charging hub in Lower Manhattan, New York. While the hub is open to the public, it is also intended for taxi and ridesharing services.

The charging hub at Pier 36, between the Manhattan and the Williamsburg bridges, includes 10 Kempower Satellite chargers. Half of these are equipped with CCS1 plugs and can charge an EV with up to 320 kW, while the other half have NACS plugs and a charging power of up to 280 kW.

Since the site is public, anyone driving an electric car or van can charge there. However, Revel points out that it is especially intended for ridesharing and taxi services.

“Hundreds of thousands of rideshare and taxi trips go in and out of Manhattan every day,” said Frank Reig, Revel’s Co-Founder & CEO. “With our new Pier 36 Charging Station, Revel is bringing the fastest charging on the market directly to those drivers so they can access EVs easier — saving them money and saving us all from breathing in more needless car pollution.”

New York Mayor Eric Adams announced in 2023 that all ride-hailing companies must electrify their entire fleet by 2030 if they wish to continue operating in the Big Apple. Revel offers ridesharing services but has recently focused more on expanding its EV infrastructure business. About six weeks ago, the company announced that it would build one of its so-called ‘Superhubs’ in Downtown Los Angeles.
