Nio & Sinopec expand cooperation

Nio is expanding its cooperation with the Chinese oil giant Sinopec. Under the new agreement, Nio customers can find and use Sinopec's charging stations across the country via the Nio app and vehicle displays.

Nio and Sinopec first partnered in 2021 to jointly build charging and battery-swapping infrastructure. In 2022, Nio recorded more than 800 battery-swapping stations in China. To date, 119 battery swap stations and 160 charging stations have been built as part of the cooperation with Sinopec. Nio has said on social media that the cooperation will “enhance the availability, efficiency and convenience of charging services.”

In 2022, Sinopec further entered the battery-swapping space independently of Nio. Sinopec joined forces with the carmaker SAIC, the battery manufacturer CATL, and China National Petroleum (CNPC) to found a joint venture to promote EVs with swappable batteries. With this cooperation, SAIC aimed to produce vehicles capable of battery swapping under several brands at once.

According to cnevpost, Nio now has 2,529 battery swap stations in China. Nio’s charging map data shows that 847 of these are located along highways. The Chinese carmaker also has 2,326 supercharging stations in China with 10,761 charge points and 1,643 destination charging stations, providing 12,684 charge points. The company’s charging map accesses 1,085,574 third-party charge points.
