Be.EV to install 38 fast-chargers at UK retail centres

Be.EV will install 38 ultra-rapid chargers at four retail centres in the UK. According to the charge point operator (CPO), many of these will become the "largest ultra-rapid charging hubs in their respective areas."

All four sites in Northamptonshire, Birmingham, Kent and South Gloucestershire will be equipped with Kempower chargers that can provide up to 150 kW. There is no mention of exactly how many chargers will be installed at what location. However, Be.EV does emphasise that “South Gloucestershire has one of the lowest percentages of EV chargers in the UK, and once complete, the hub will provide a huge boost to the region’s charging provisions.”

The deal, worth 3.5 million pounds, was signed with a Magnetar Capital-backed portfolio of retail centres and Northdale Advisors, while the latter acted as operating partner for Magnetar Capital in the deal.

“We are pleased to have forged this partnership with Magnetar and Northdale to bring ultra-rapid charging to shoppers across their portfolio,” said Asif Ghafoor, CEO of Be.EV. “We have extensive experience installing and maintaining chargers at retail parks up and down the country, which not only serve the local community but also boost retailer income through increased footfall.”

”We’re excited to partner with Be.EV on this transaction” added Tim Williams of Northdale Advisors. “The rollout of Be.EV’s ultra-rapid chargers across our portfolio will provide a market-leading amenity for our visitors while also attracting new customers to our retailers. Importantly, the transaction will also help us to deliver on our wider ESG strategy.”

Be.EV recently secured £55 million in funding from the NatWest and the German KfW IPEX-Bank. The company will use the fresh capital to expand its charging network to over 1,000 fast chargers by the end of the year.

The CPO also became part of the Plugsurfing network and opened its first charging hub in Stockport, Greater Manchester, at the beginning of the year. A second site there will follow soon. Be.EV is backed by Octopus Energy Generation, which invested £110 million in the charge point operator last year.
