Sharp hopes to start selling its own electric vehicles by the end of the decade. The initial target market will be Japan, and a production site has yet to be determined. Taiwanese company Foxconn is on board as a cooperation partner and will manufacture the EVs. Where has yet to be decided.

Sharp’s LDK+ concept car is supposed to be an “extended living room.” The focus is not on driving the car, but on sitting in it, says Sharp. For example, the rear seats can rotate backwards and when the door is shut, crystal shutters keep out the rest of the world, “creating a private space.”

But there is more: “Based on the information that AI learns from home appliances in daily life, it automatically adjusts the air conditioning and brightness according to your preferences, creating a comfortable interior space.” Still not convinced? Sharp also installed a large screen in the back of the car so that it can double as a cinema room – or a private office.

You can take a closer look at the concept here:

Sharp is the second Japanese electronics company after Sony to present an electric vehicle. Sony has shown two prototypes in recent years: The VISION-S 01 was presented at CES 2020, and the VISION-S 02 electric SUV at CES 2022. In 2022, it also announced a joint venture with Japanese carmaker Honda called Afeela. The first Afeela vehicle will launch in 2025, with the launch in North America planned for 2026. The company also has plans to enter the European market.
