According to BYD, the vehicles will focus “on environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, smart technology, and safety and comfort.” The exact nature of the Uruguay-specific adaptations is not specified in the press release. BYD also does not mention any technical data on the drive system.

The K9UD offered by BYD Europe is 12.2 metres long and has a wheelbase of 5.90 metres. Its total weight is up to 19.5 tonnes. According to SORT-II, the battery, with an energy content of up to 422 kWh, offers a range of 450 kilometres. The battery is BYD’s own LFP technology. It is charged (in Europe) by cable via CCS or via a pantograph.

For Uruguay, BYD emphasises more generally that the customised buses “not only showcase BYD’s latest technological innovations but also symbolise the sincere cooperation and ongoing progress between the two parties, representing a pivotal step in Uruguay’s push towards 100% public transit electrification.”

Cutcsa wants to convert its fleet completely to e-buses by 2040. According to the BYD press release, the operator praised the all-electric buses at the handover ceremony “for their performance, quality, environmental sustainability, and operational effectiveness.”
