Veolia expands electric fleet in London borough

To make refuse collection and street cleaning green, Veolia is adding eight new electric cargo bikes to its fleet in Hammersmith & Fulham. The London borough is aiming to become the country's 'greenest.'

Veolia’s fleet there now includes 20 electric vehicles, specifically the electric cargo bikes mentioned above, eight electric vans, and three street cleansing cage vehicles. It also includes an electric Refuse Collection Vehicle (eRCV), “which will be used for the new garden waste collection service.”

The newly added bikes will be used by staff “to empty public litter bins and collect fly-tipped waste across the borough.” Veolia points out that these vehicles are especially useful on narrower routes, such as the Thames Pathway.

Hammersmith & Fulham is not the only London borough where Veolia is growing its fleet of electric vehicles. The country’s largest waste management firm added 45 electric refuse trucks for waste collection in Westminster with which it has been testing vehicle-to-grid applications.
