Rivian starts delivering next-gen R1 models

Despite declining figures, Rivian has been sticking to its production target of 57,000 vehicles. Now, it is picking up the pace and has started delivering the next generation of its R1S electric SUV and R1T electric pickup.

Rivian presented the updated R1S and R1T models in June. The exteriors have virtually remained the same, but the EVs have a completely new drive system. The all-electric SUV and pickup are only available with all-wheel drive, but with three configurations: The basic variant uses two motors, while the company also offers a tri-motor layout (two motors on the rear axle, one at the front) and a quad-motor with one motor per wheel.

The quad engine is said to have an output of 754 kW (original specification: 1,025 hp) and 1,624 Nm of torque (original specification: 1,198 lb-ft). It enables the Rivians to accelerate to 96 kph (60 mph) in under 2.5 seconds. The revised tri-motor offers a combined system output of 850 hp and 1,103 Nm of torque. It completes the sprint from zero to 60 mph in just under three seconds.

We summarised any additional changes in this article.

According to InsideEVs, the tri-motor variant of the 2025 Rivian R1T starts at 99,900 dollars. The 2025 R1S SUV sells from 15,900 dollars. The carmaker currently only produces the dual- and tri-motor variants. The first units fitted with the quad-motor should be delivered early next year.

The media report also states that Rivian has ramped up its production, though it does not say to how many units. As reported in July, deliveries stayed constant in the second quarter of 2024, but production has fallen sharply. Meanwhile, the 2024 target to produce 57,000 vehicles remained, even though only 23,592 units rolled off the production line in the first half of the year.
