Alpitronic opens US headquarters in North Carolina
Alpitronic announced the launch of its US headquarters in May 2023 with the plan to invest $9.3 million. The Italian charging infrastructure provider based in Bolzano, Italy, has now reconfirmed its commitment to its goal of creating up to 300 jobs in the USA.
The site covers over 6,000 square meters and includes facilities such as a diagnostics laboratory, a repair centre, a spare parts warehouse, and a training centre.
“The US market is the next logical step for us,” explains Philipp Senoner, CEO of Alpitronic. “Our high-power chargers are proving their worth in Europe and we want to make the transition to electromobility as easy as possible in the USA too. With very different mobility needs, the USA offers enormous potential and is particularly exciting for our entire product range, which we are constantly developing further.”
Alpitronic already has its first important customer in the USA: Mercedes-Benz High Power Charging, the new fast-charging network from Mercedes-Benz. “We are delighted that our Hypercharger 400 will be integrated into the planned Mercedes-Benz DC fast charging network. This will ensure a fast and reliable charging experience for users. I am particularly proud that our launch team has made this partnership possible.” The first charging stations will soon be available in Texas, Florida and California.
When the cooperation was announced in June, it was said that the hyperchargers used as part of this partnership would not be built at Alpitronic in Italy, but in the US state of Wisconsin. This new production facility in Appleton is already up and running, as a LinkedIn entry by Alpitronic manager Anoop Nanda shows. The first production units built in the USA and open to the public are expected to be installed and available in October, according to Alpitronic. This is part of the greater push for US-manufactured goods from President Biden’s infrastructure policies. The Alpitronic chargers made in the USA will be available for purchase with an additional subsidy under the “Buy America” program.
Alpitronic attaches great importance to the fact that its fast charging stations are particularly reliable and will significantly improve the quality of charging locations in the USA. According to the company, the Hyperchargers have an uptime of 97.5 per cent, which is well above the US average of 72.5 per cent. An extensive service and repair network should also ensure that defective stations can be repaired within four hours – an important factor in keeping uptime high.
The headquarters are ideally located in North Carolina since the US state is proving to be a hot spot when it comes to green tech, especially electric vehicles and associated technology. The state, with a conveniently large port on the Eastern Seaboard, has attracted a lot of manufacturing activity in the last 12 months.
