Schiphol Airport purchases 50 electric buses from MAN
The electric bus fleet that has been ordered is tasked with transporting passengers between the aircraft and the terminal. The new MAN electric buses are due to arrive from next spring – and will replace the now outdated electric buses on site. The background to this is that Schiphol has already had an all-electric bus fleet for ten years. “With this new generation of buses, we can take a step forward in terms of passenger comfort and continue to guarantee reliability,” said Sybren Hahn, Executive Director of Infrastructure Schiphol.
The airport operator assumes that bus transport will remain very important in the coming years due to the ever-increasing size of aircraft and several major renovations. Against this background, the renewal of the fleet is intended to ensure the continuity and reliability of bus transport between the terminal and the plane.
The electric vehicles ordered from MAN have three doors and a lower floor, which should make it easier and quicker for passengers to board. The new units also have an improved interior layout, offering more space for standing passengers than their predecessors. This means that passengers do not have to wait as long and can get to the aircraft or terminal more quickly, it says.
“We are proud that MAN is further expanding its cooperation with Schiphol in the field of passenger transport and that we are making a substantial contribution to the ambitious zero emission goals of our national airport,” said Tillo Smets, Sales Manager Public Transport MAN Nederland.
For MAN, this is not the first order for e-buses to be deployed on an airport apron. Just at the beginning of the month, Munich Airport also announced an order for 37 electric buses from MAN.
