AVL presents new e-axle for long-haul trucks
Drive developer AVL is currently exhibiting an electric motor innovation at the IAA Transportation in Hanover. The new drive axle is designed for trucks with battery or fuel cell drives and is particularly suitable for long-distance transport. Series development is being carried out in collaboration with Parsan, a Güris Group company based near Istanbul. AVL has not yet provided any information on the market launch.
According to AVL, the e-axle should offer low weight, high performance, maximum efficiency and a service life of 1.5 million kilometres. Specifically, it delivers 400 kW continuous and 540 kW peak power. Additionally, the “multi-speed transmission enables shifting without loss of torque, which increases efficiency and ensures smooth gear changes,” the Austrian company writes. Various driving modes are designed to further maximise efficiency and range.
AVL also emphasises that the e-axle generates relatively low product costs and also rather low total costs of ownership (TCO). It is also said to fit “into conventional truck installation spaces.” Dr Rolf Doebereiner, Product Line Manager Vehicle at AVL, commented: “This is the next generation of heavy-duty e-axles: highly efficient and intelligently and predictively controlled. This innovation offers our customers the ideal solution for electrically powered long-distance truck transport, characterised by high efficiency, low operating costs and a longer range.”
