The Council does not specify how much it will invest in the installation. It only says that the new chargers will be financed ” through government capital funding and wider private investment.” It is also not clear what power the chargers will offer.

Moreover, the first three council-owned public EV charging stations in Walsall are already up and running. The local government is working together with Black Country Transport and Wenea to install the chargers. The first three are all AC, offering up to 7.4 kW. A further 33 will be installed in the coming months.

The rollout is part of a borough-wide strategy to prepare it for electric vehicles. The UK government will ban the sale of new diesel and petrol cars from 2035, and the borough itself is set to become net zero by 2041. residents can submit suggestions for EV charger locations.
