EKPO presents new NM20 fuel cell stack module at the IAA
With up to 400 kW, the NM20 stack module is the most powerful from EKPO and is designed in particular for heavy goods transport. High efficiency, lower hydrogen consumption, higher possible operating temperatures, recyclability and a long service life are key features of the new stack, according to the company. EKPO states that the power density of the stacks was increased by more than 50 per cent compared to previous generations.
Dr Stefan Dwenger, Chief Commercial Officer at EKPO, explains: “The NM20 is currently in the prototyping phase, meaning that it will start being delivered to customers toward the end of 2024. We’re already in control of the entire process chain and have access to a highly automated, cost-effective manufacturing operation in line with automotive standards thanks to our existing products.” The NM20 will be presented to the public for the first time at the IAA Transportation in Germany.
The fuel cell-powered next-generation truck ‘Europa’ from Dutch system integrator zepp.solutions will also be on display at the EKPO stand. The 350-bar model will be launched in 2024, has a range of 700 kilometres and can pull a standard trailer without any length restrictions. The ‘Europa’ truck features the EKPO NM12-twin stack platform with 598 cells, which was developed for applications with a power requirement of more than 150 kW.
EKPO Fuel Cell Technologies is a joint venture between the suppliers ElringKlinger and OPmobility and is very active. The company will also supply fuel cell stacks for the first non-stop flight of a hydrogen aircraft around the world.
