E.ON partners with Siemens for its public charging network
The two companies have signed a framework agreement that initially covers the markets in Germany, Italy, Sweden and the UK. The agreement specifically covers the Sicharge D fast charging station and back-end access including certain services via the Siemens Sifinity Control system. This gives E.ON “transparency and configuration options across all charging stations to easily manage and monitor the entire charging network,” according to Siemens.
The framework agreement underpins E.ON’s goal of expanding its own charging network by at least 1,000 new public fast-charging points every year. The contract with Siemens has a term of two years, during which additional technologies such as lorry and megawatt charging are also to be further developed. E.ON has also ordered a series of IoT-capable transformer stations to effectively manage the energy supply for the charging infrastructure and intelligently control the available power, according to reports.
“With Siemens, we have another strong provider on board that supports us with its solutions for the expansion of our public charging network in Europe, serving a wide range of current and future use cases. The combination of reliable hardware and tailor-made services ensures a stable network and an optimized charging experience,” said Arjan Van Der Eijk, Chief Operating Officer at E.ON Drive Infrastructure. The combination of reliable hardware and customised services ensures a stable network and an optimised charging experience.
Markus Mildner, CEO eMobility at Siemens Smart Infrastructure, added: “For charging station operators, customer satisfaction and a high level of profitability are the most important priorities. With the high quality and reliability of our hardware and our service offerings, we want to support E.ON in achieving this goal.”
According to the partners, the Sicharge D was intensively tested in advance in the E.ON test laboratory for electromobility in Essen. As part of a separate tender by E.ON in the Czech Republic, 17 units of the charging station have already been installed and put into operation. The system is characterised, among other things, by the fact that it can be expanded by two additional charging points using a dispenser.
According to the website, E.ON Drive currently operates a good 6,000 public charging points for electric cars and 10,000 charging points in the private and commercial sector.
