In July, CATL launched its new brand called ‘Tianxing’ for commercial vehicle batteries. The bus battery that has now been presented will be commercialised under this new sub-brand. According to CATL, the new battery called Tectrans Bus Edition offers an energy density of 175 Wh/kg and a service life of 15 years or 1.5 million kilometres. The manufacturer officially intends to provide a guarantee for ten years or 1 million kilometres.

At least that is what the Chinese publication CNEVPost reported, citing an event at the end of last week. The electric bus battery is expected to go into series production “soon” and, thanks to partnerships with 13 manufacturers including Yutong Bus, Golden Dragon and Dongfeng Motor, is already set to be used in 80 bus models. The article does not specify the battery chemistry or charging behaviour of the bus batteries.

CATL introduced its new subsidiary ‘Tianxing’ for commercial vehicle batteries in July – and also unveiled two products. Both are designed for light commercial vehicles and are based on CATL’s cell-to-pack (CTP) approach without a module level in the battery packs. One is a particularly fast-charging 4C battery, which is also currently on display at the IAA Transportation in Hanover.
