The charging system was announced at the ‘E.ON Drive Summit’ in Munich in May of this year. At the time, the new generation of high-performance charging stations for trucks was to be tested with E.ON customers and launched on the market in early 2025. The Italian charging station manufacturer has now published the first details of the Megawatt Charging System.

According to this, the system will be able to support an output of up to one megawatt per charging point with a maximum charging current of 1,500 amps. The efficiency is stated as 97 per cent. Alpitronic also states that the system has been developed with scalability in mind and should therefore be adaptable to the developing industry and further increases in performance. Another feature highlighted by the company is reliability: “Based on its highly efficient SiC power stack the system offers highest reliability proven in more than 80 millions of charging sessions.”

“Our new Mega Watt Charging System represents a major leap forward
in charging technology,” said Wolfgang Ademmer, CMO of Alpitronic. “By
delivering MCS charging capabilities, we’re addressing the need of
logistic companies to adopt electric trucks on long distance transportation
paving the way for decarbonization of the transport sector.”

Alpitronic intends to present its megawatt charging system at an exclusive event in Bolzano in February 2025. The start of production is planned for the second quarter of 2025. However, interested parties will have the opportunity to find out more in advance at the IAA Transportation.
