Wattif takes over Housing Cooperatives portfolio from Mer

Wattif has acquired the Norwegian part of Mer's business with charging stations for housing cooperatives. Wattif now holds the claim of being one of the largest operators of charging stations for housing cooperatives in Europe. Andreas Strand has also been appointed as the new CEO of Wattif.

The acquisition also includes the customers and infrastructure of Mer’s Norwegian housing co-operatives. “The transition of customer relationships from Mer to Wattif is being handled smoothly,” states Sheridan Jørgensen, CEO of Mer Norway. “We’ve had a productive and collaborative dialogue with Mer to ensure a seamless transition for customers,” added Celine Troye Hopsdal, Managing Director of Wattif Norway.

With 35,000 charging points in six countries, Wattif says it is already one of the largest operators of charging stations for housing cooperatives in Europe. However, the company aims to grow, planning to install 100 charging stations at 20 hotels under the Steigenberger Hotels & Resorts and Intercity Hotel brands in Germany and Austria, for example. Wattif is also planning to equip 20 B&B Hotels with charging facilities.

The Statkraft subsidiary wants to focus on “public fast charging and the business market.” “We in Mer believe our customers in housing cooperatives will be better served by a company specialising in this specific segment. The time has come to allow this part of our business to grow under new ownership,” says Nicholai Sheridan Jørgensen, CEO of Mer Norway.

Shortly after announcing the acquisition of Mer’s business, Wattif made another announcement. After several years, co-founder Robert Svendsen has decided to step down from the management of the company and finalise the succession process that was initiated some time ago. Andreas Strand took over the position of CEO from Svendsen on 1 September 2024. Strand will be supported by Thomas Lindberg, CFO of Wattif.
