ScottishPower launches home charging initiative

The green energy company´s EV Optimise add-on allows customers to opt into smart charging for their vehicle at their home at a time when the demand on the UK’s power network is low, resulting in savings to their electricity bill.

ScottishPower’s new ‘EV Optimise’ scheme is designed to work as an add-on to eligible existing ScottishPower tariffs. The power company explains that the initiative benefits customers with a monthly credit to their electricity bill in exchange for allowing ScottishPower to remotely manage their car charging at their private home.

Under the scheme, EV Optimise would allow customers to charge their electric vehicles for “as little as 2p per mile.” ScottishPowers’s customer base currently includes over 10,000 EV customers, and the company has installed over 4,000 home charging stations so far. The company also cites current figures claiming that around 20 per cent of new cars in the UK are electric, implying growing demand.

“We want to make the transition to EVs as easy as possible, and make sure that our customers can continue to benefit from owning or leasing a low-carbon vehicle,” said Andy Mouat, Head of Smart Mobility at ScottishPower, adding: “Not only are our EV-driving customers lowering their bills and their own carbon footprint, but they’re also helping us to support the UK’s decarbonisation journey too.”

At the beginning of this year, ScottishPower announced a partnership with ZeroAvia to work on the development of a hydrogen supply for key airport sites to drive the decarbonisation of the aviation sector, and in April 2023, ScottishPower announced a collaboration with HiTrans to expand charging infrastructure.
