Tata Motors unveils new Ultra EV 7M electric bus in India
Tata Motors has fitted the Ultra EV 7M with a 213 kW motor, which gives it a top speed of 75 kph. It has a 200 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that can be charged in approximately 2.5 hours. According to Tata Motors, the electric bus can travel between 120 and 160 km on one charge.
The Ultra EV 7M measures 7,150 mm in length, 2,340 mm in width, and 3,200 mm in height. It has a compact wheelbase of 3,450 mm and a high floor height of 900 mm. It has a single passenger-boarding door at the front on the left side, which is sufficient for its default passenger capacity of 20 people.
According to Tata, the electric minibus has a gross vehicle weight of 9,500 kg and offers a decent grade-ability of 17% at that rate. Speaking to V3Cars at the Ultra EV 7 M’s debut, Anand S, the Vice President and Head of Tata Motors’ Commercial Passenger Vehicle Business, revealed that this is the first model in the 7-metre-plus segment. He said that customers can use it for both urban mobility and staff applications.
Tata Motors equips the Ultra EV 7M with air suspension for passenger comfort at both ends and a tilt and telescopic steering column for the driver’s convenience. The electric bus also features narrow overhead luggage racks. For safety, the Tata added an electronic braking system and electronic stability control.
Tata Motors claims to be the largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in India and the leader in the electric bus segment, having deployed more than 2,900 units across the country.
