Equipmake presents improved electric drive for commercial vehicles
Equipmake states that the peak output of its new electric motor for commercial vehicles is 400 kW and 3,500 Nm. In this respect, it does not differ from the currently available generation. The decisive factor is the continuous output: here, the Snetterton-based company has increased the value from 100 to 200 kW at 2500 rpm. The new HTM-3500 is designed for use in heavy-duty vehicles. Otherwise, the motor is still direct drive and, according to the manufacturer, can be easily integrated into the cardan shaft and the existing axle without needing a separate gearbox.
Equipmake unveiled the new product at Cenex Expo 2024 in the UK. According to CEO Ian Foley, the upgraded motor sets new standards and exemplifies how the company’s electric motor can be improved. “By doubling its continuous power, our new HTM-3500 enables electric buses, coaches, trucks and other heavy vehicles to operate with greater real-world performance and efficiency during their regular duty cycles,” he said.
Foley says demand is growing rapidly. Customers come from the automotive, aerospace, bus and off-highway industries and are requesting entire electrified systems and individual components. According to Equipmake, supply contracts exist with Caterpillar subsidiary Perkins and Rimac, for example. There is also a licence agreement with Sona Comstar, a supplier headquartered in India. Equipmake also cites the conversion of combustion buses to electric as a main pillar of its business.
